Jonas Mekas Visual Arts Center

Address: Malūnų g. 8, Vilnius 01109

Let’s start by getting acquainted with the very creator, in whose honor the center has been set up. Jonas Mekas is a Lithuanian-American filmmaker, artist and curator. He is not merely a filmmaker. He is often called the godfather of American avant-garde film, who persists in calling himself Lithuanian, albeit living and working in New York. This makes it clearer why talks about shipping over and exhibiting his film archive in Lithuania, have been circling around for a number of years. And the idea was realized in Vilnius. Opening its doors, the center also opened up the opportunity to get acquainted with avant-garde cinematography and new artists inspired by this style. To get closer, and briefly experience the emotions stirred by visual arts. Come and let the films, clips, holograms and computer programs take you to the worlds being created by this field of art. Come and be amazed by the new kinds of art and self-expression. And do you know why we really like Vilnius? Because from the center bursting with visual arts, to the place where amber pieces tell stories of the past, is only 600 steps.
